I’m Steve Chaplin, a DVSA-approved driving instructor with BTEC Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications in coaching for driver development. I work with learners who want more than just test preparation — people who want to become confident, safe, and responsible drivers for life — not just to pass a test.
As an instructor, I understand the importance of continuous professional development. Driving is about far more than vehicle control; it’s about awareness, decision-making, and how we respond to pressure.
My role is to help you understand why you drive the way you do, not just how to pass a test.
Alongside being DVSA approved, I hold the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award in Coaching for Driver Development and the Pearson-accredited BTEC Level 4 Professional Award in Coaching for Driver Development. These recognised, industry-leading qualifications allow me to use a client-centred coaching approach, tailored to each individual rather than a one-size-fits-all method.
My coaching style focuses on building responsibility, awareness, and self-reflection. This means you learn how your goals, emotions, and personal circumstances can influence your driving — and how to manage them safely. Rather than simply being told what to do, you’re encouraged to think, reflect, and take ownership of your driving decisions.
Through coaching, you’ll develop the skills to manage your driving behaviour calmly and confidently, both during lessons and once you’re driving independently. My aim is to help you become a driver who can self-evaluate, adapt to new situations, and make safe choices long after you’ve passed your test.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to driving, or someone who needs a calmer, more supportive learning environment, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
If you’re looking for a supportive, coaching-based approach to automatic driving lessons, I’d be happy to help.
